On the left, there’s a DC-In port, follow by three Gigabit LAN ports, the third supporting link aggregation with the fourth Gigabit port. And that last one can also function as a WAN, as can the 2.5GbE port further to the right. And then we also get a USB 3.0 port.

The usual set of buttons are locat on the bottom side, and this is where the developers have definitely shown their creative side, which I definitely lik.

Heat management

In terms of heat management, ASUS has been very generous with the vents at both the top and bottom. But we are still country email list dealing with passive cooling, so is this enough? I us a thermal imaging camera to get an idea, and as expect, we see some hot spots appearing, but this is normal as the heat is being dissipat away from the chipsets.

The temperature does not rise above reasonable limits, and I doubt it will in the future, so there is no ne to worry about thermal throttling.

ASUS doesn’t like you opening up coming out & diversity days their routers, and they make that clear when they put those warning stickers over the screws, but at least in the US, you should be protect from such tampering, well, you should. The process is pretty simple. You remove four screws, then use a pry tool to pop the bottom off.

Then we see some heat spreaders on both sides of the PCB that also ne to be remov, and that also means disconnecting the antenna fresh list connectors. Nothing too complicat, since there is no gel or glue or whatever you call it. Then we see the main components.

Now let’s look at the throughput I was able to measure using several types of client devices. For the 5 GHz radio band, I us a laptop equipp with an Intel AX200. As a WiFi 6 client, another laptop with an Intel 8265 and a Pixel 2 XL smartphone for WiFi 5 client devices. As for the WiFi 6E client, I us a PC equipp with a TP-Link TX3000E adapter.
