ASUS has been churning out its WiFi 7 models, one after another, so I decid to buy the now year-old RT-AXE7800, because I’m that kind of person. Yeah, so if you haven’t read all the reviews available online, you’re welcome, and you might be in for a treat, because I tend to test these devices a little differently than most, as you’ll see. Okay, so what does the RT-AXE7800 promise to offer?

The most important aspect is the third radio band, which operates at 6 GHz, but we are still limit to 160 MHz, only WiFi 7 devices have gone further, reaching 320 MHz at the moment. OFDMA is also support, and we get one 2.5 GbE port that can be us for both WAN and LAN. I don’t think this is enough, but ASUS seems to be more generous with its new devices.

I’ve seen that there’s LAN aggregation support, which the ExpertWiFi EBR63 doesn’t have, but I’ve also seen WAN aggregation country wise email marketing list support. That’s not just the usual failover and load balancing algorithms, but an actual increase in throughput, although it’s only up to 2Gbps. That’s still something. The OS is also feature-rich, and you can use this device to create an AiMesh network, but I’ve seen that there’s no Merlin support, which is a bit of a shame.

Quality of design and build

Now let’s talk about the design of the RT-AXE7800. I’ll admit, I’ve seen better, but I’ve also seen much worse.
