No donation for Dora but presents

Lacan’s rereading of the Dora 1 case demonstrates, in our opinion, all its power, based on the mathemes of the man-woman relationship formulated in “Remarks on the report of Daniel Lagache” 2 . For the man, the woman is in the place of Φ (a) ; for the woman, the man is in the place of Ⱥ ( ɸ ).

Starting point, the “disunion” of Dora’s father and mother, according to Freud’s term. If the two functions P(ere) and M(ere) make the paternal metaphor efficient, the man-woman relationship is, itself, deficient 3 . For Lacan the impotence of the father is central. Impotence, let us recall, linked to numerous organic illnesses (it is not primarily a mental impotence) 4 .

The virile position ɸ /- ɸ is therefore deficient here. De facto the father is turned away from any woman, even an ideal one, by his illnesses which constantly bring him back to his body. His own wife, Dora’s mother,

has long since fallen from this position

Another fact: Dora’s position of demand for love. It is a demand for love from the father, but which finds no way out, and which would seem never to find any, since a priori , there is no place for this feminine ideal Φ in him.

Thus Dora, left behind in her  mobile database request for love, finds herself in the position of object a , unable to receive from the father the gift of what he does not have ( Ⱥ ), a gift which alone would open the way for the young girl, in the future, towards a phallic position, Φ, for a man.

But, miraculously, the stakes are saved for her, due to her father’s interest in Mrs. K, who thus turns out to be Dora’s subjective jason signor chief executive officer  breath. The agalmatic value of the woman Φ , via a woman, therefore exists for her father. Thus the existence of Ⱥ , the father of love, is not, in its essentiality, called into question. Dora’s demand for love can keep its arrow.

This question arises: what does Mrs

K have that she doesn’t? Which prolongs and transforms her request for love from the father, into a questioning of the father’s desire. To find out, she encourages her father’s relationship with Mrs. K, encourages their meetings, and betting email list  looks after the children of the Mrs. K / Mr. K couple. Dora’s father, for his part, is generous with gifts for Mrs. K, without omitting his daughter in the circuit of his largesse. Thus Dora imagines herself participating in the aura that Mrs. K enjoys with her father.
